Privacy policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
This is the privacy notice of Taste the Adventure, Kat Hounsell's food and travel blog. Kat Hounsell is the controller of the personal data this website collects. It explains what the site collects about you, why, and what you can ask her to do with it.
To ask anything about it, to get a copy of what's held about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email kat@tastetheadventure.world.
What we collect and why
When you send a message through the contact form, we keep your name, email address and message, and email them to Kat, so she can reply. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: you've asked her something, and she needs these details to answer.
When you sign up for the newsletter, we keep your first name, your email address, when you signed up and when you confirmed. We email you once to confirm it was you, and the newsletter goes only to people who have confirmed. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing Kat, and you'll come off the list. The list is kept on this site and isn't shared with anyone.
How the site is used
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics (Google LLC) to record which pages are visited and how the site is used, along with your approximate location and the device and browser you use. Google may process this data outside the UK. If you don't accept analytics cookies, or you reject them, Google Analytics doesn't run and nothing is sent to Google. It helps us see what's useful and fix what isn't. You can change your mind at any time with the Manage cookies link in the footer.
The lawful basis for analytics is your consent, given or refused in the cookie banner.
The contact and newsletter forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check a submission came from a person rather than a bot. It's a security check for the form you're sending, and Cloudflare sees the technical details of your browser to do it. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: keeping spam and abuse off the site.
Cookies
The site sets a cookie to keep the owner signed in to the site's admin area, and a cookie to remember your cookie choices. Only if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also sets cookies (_ga and _ga_*) to recognise a returning visitor. Nothing is used for advertising.
The cookie that remembers your choices (consent) lasts 12 months and holds your choices, when and how you made them, the version of this policy you saw and the broad region you were in - nothing that identifies you. You can change your mind at any time with Manage cookies in the footer of every page.
We also keep a record of each cookie choice - when and how you made it, what you chose, the broad region you were in and which version of this policy you saw - so we can show that you agreed when you did. That's a legal obligation: the law asks us to be able to show consent. A choice runs out after 12 months, and each record is deleted 2 years after that.
Who else sees it
Your data isn't sold or used for advertising. These companies help run the site and handle it to do so:
- the company that builds and hosts this website, where everything above is stored;
- an email delivery service, which sends the site's emails (the confirmation, and your message to Kat);
- Cloudflare, which delivers the site and runs the form check;
- Google, for analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.
Some of them may process data outside the UK. Where they do, it's covered by the UK's adequacy regulations or the standard contractual clauses the UK approves.
How long we keep it
Messages from the contact form are kept for as long as Kat needs them to reply and for her records afterwards, and she can delete one at any time. Newsletter sign-ups are kept until you ask to come off the list. A sign-up that isn't confirmed within 30 days of its confirmation email is deleted, with that email.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what's held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it's used, or withdraw a consent you gave, by emailing kat@tastetheadventure.world. If you're unhappy with how your data has been handled you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
